Dustjacket in good condition, slightly rubbed by spine ends, outer corner edges. Price clipped (cut at an angle widest width 6cms bottom edge and top edge width 3cms). xiv, 144pp, and index. With 29 black-and-white photographs and 5 plans. Frank Hawkings was sixteen years old when in August 1914 he volunteered for the Territorial Force - Queen Victoria's Rifles at the start of the First World War, three months later he was in France. He survived the worst winter of the war in the trenches at Ypres, was wounded on the opening day of the Battle of the Somme, and wounded again when he returned as an officer in the Royal Naval Division in the Second Battle of Cambrai in the closing months of the war.
