Gilt top edge. Bevelled edges. The boards are rubbed at spine ends, outer corner edges, bottom edges, and little at sides of spine. Free endpapers are lightly browned with a darker strip doing down the page about 2" wide. The endpapers are cracked along the front and back hinges, but there is no looseness. A few pages have a few spots of foxing, otherwise the pages are clean and bright. The two illustrations after page 216 have a thin brownish wavy line about 2" long at the bottom inside edges. At the front edge some pages are rough-cut and a few are uncut. A very good tight book. xv, 513pp, including Bibliography, Glossary of Terms and Index. Also a Chronology of Painters. (9"w x 6¼""w) (22.5cms x 16cms) approx.
