Dustjacket in very good condition, front top and bottom edges, and spine ends slightly rubbed. The author grew up in a village on the edge of the Black Country in the Midlands of England. He became a journalist working for Beaverbrook and later for the Sunday Times. The main theme of the book is his private life whether at his family home in the Black Country, in flats in London or in country cottages, or in tents, barracks and slip trenches of the war years.
